Electrical Safety: When You Travel
Bill’s Quality Electric, LLC shares electrical safety tips with a special focus on travel and implementing electrical safety practices wherever you are. When we travel, we often stay overnight in hotel/motel rooms, and we may forget that electrical safety is just as important when we are away from home as it is when we are in our usual residence. When we travel, we often bring a lot of devices with us, like phones and chargers, iPads and laptops and other electrical items such as blow dryers, flat irons and the like. We need to be aware of the proper place each of these items should have where we stay overnight. Remember to store electrical items away from combustibles such as bedding, pillows, towels, washcloths and clothing, especially when unpacking from a trip. Remember to keep your hand on the plug of an electrical appliance rather than pulling on the electrical cord when inserting it into an outlet, and don’t overload the outlet with too many devices. Don’t leave laptops, iPads or cell phones on the bed or on a piece of furniture in your hotel room since this can cause overheating and lead to fire. You may want to review the fire escape plan for your hotel/motel so you know where to go in case of a fire.
